May 2009

I was determined not to be a month late getting my May set up, and I’m going to do my best to stay on top of updates. Obviously with our new baby boy I’m going to be laying it on pretty thick with the baby pictures. If that’s not your thing…well, sorry.

Over a month late, here are the pictures for April. With the impending arrival of our baby boy, things got pretty busy. I managed to get out and take a bunch of pictures, but posting them got tough. Enjoy!
Pictures from Santa Barbara, California
by admin on Feb.09, 2009, under Animals, Fun, People
Tami and I just got back last night from our trip out to Santa Barbara to visit her family. The weather was bad for most of the trip, but we had a great time. The last day things cleared up for the most part, and we took advantage by having an outdoor picnic. Some of these pictures should make it up into the main gallery for February, but here’s a few highlights from the trip. I may add to this slideshow later, so check back as I still have a lot of pictures to go through.
February 2009

I made it through January, so I guess I’m not so bad at keeping up after all. Here are the pictures from February. There should be a bit more variety in the shots here, as Tami and I will be making a short trip to Santa Barbara, California for a few days. Like always, I’ll post at least one picture for each day, but some days might have multiple pictures. Remember, any regular blog posts will appear chronologically AFTER this post.

Last day of January shoot at the Great Salt Lake
by admin on Feb.01, 2009, under People, Water/Ice
Tami, my brother, and I all went out to the Great Salt Lake, near Magna to get an hour of shooting in despite the terribly hazy conditions. It was the first time that I’ve been able to take my new lens (Canon 18-200mm) out of the confines of my own yard, so I was excited even with the disadvantages of hazy skies and harsh light. I’m pretty satisfied with the lens overall, and I’d really like to see what I could do with ideal conditions. I did notice that at the 18mm setting there were some dark edges around the corners of my shots. I’ll have to see if this is my lens or the filter I’m using, as I’d like to avoid that going forward. Anyway, here’s a quick slideshow of some of the pictures I got.
A long day

There’s nothing particularly artistic about this shot, especially with how common this sight has become at our house. Tami is crashed out on the couch at the end of a long work day with her dog by her side. Being six and a half months pregnant and working full time is quite the drain…

Tami rocking the Jurassic Park pin

It had been a little while since we had the time to fire up the arcades and pinball machine, but Tami and I found our way in there tonight for a quick play session. While Tami was racking up big scores, multiballs, and watching the T-Rex gobble up pinballs, I snapped a few pics of her. Here’s one that I thought looked particularly nice.

Watching

These three teenage girls were watching people skate around at the Gallivan Center in Salt Lake City. It seemed like they were interested in what was going on, but a little apprehensive to put on skates and join the group of people making the turns out on the crowded ice.

Two random shots from Salt Lake City

I took these with my wife while we were downtown walking around. I really wish I had my tripod, as the majority of the pictures I took that night turned out to be a blurry mess. There was something about this dad talking to his daughter that was a bit charming, however. This big ball of light was actually a bunch of used water bottles glued together into a giant sphere and a light had been placed smack dab in the middle of them. Pretty neat. The other shot is out in front of the X-Mission offices, a popular local ISP.
